The Copyright Office provides distinct group routes for categories such as unpublished works, photographs, newspapers, newsletters, serials, short online literary works, and certain album-related works. Eligibility must be tested against the current rule for the specific group.

Facts that change eligibility

• Published versus unpublished status and the publication date of each work.
• Whether the same author or claimant requirements are satisfied.
• The number and type of works in the proposed group.
• Whether required titles, files, spreadsheets, deposits, and certifications can be supplied.

Avoid mixing incompatible works

Combining works that do not qualify for the selected group may delay registration or narrow the resulting record. If publication, ownership, or work type differs, separate applications may provide a clearer and more enforceable record.
